Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage

I am very happy to now be offering Hawaiian Temple Style Lomi Lomi massage.  Lomi Lomi is a beautiful healing art rooted in the ancient traditions of indigenous Hawaiians.  For more information about Lomi Lomi please see http://www.sacredlomi.com.  I have been studying with Tom and Donna of Sacred Lomi Hawaiian Temple Bodywork, and so my practice is derived from their lineage.

Studying Lomi Lomi has greatly invigorated my massage practice; I feel more enthusiastic about giving massage than ever (if that was even possible lol).  My massage style has always been resonant with Lomi Lomi in an energetic sense, as it has always been emanating from a place of deep aloha and sacred connection.  Yet the movements of Lomi Lomi are different from my usual Swedish massage style.  I see the movements of Lomi Lomi as a dance art, like hula, in which circular and figure eight forearm runs are applied to the body in a flowing rhythm.  The practitioner incorporates intention, touch, movement, prayer, and breath, creating dynamic sensations for the receiver that may be reminiscent of the power of nature, like the feeling of ocean waves rolling in, a gentle breeze upon the body, or even a storm breaking.  The inherent connection of the ancient Hawaiians to nature is evident here.  The wisdom and mana, or inner power of the kupuna, the Hawaiian ancestors, can also be a felt presence in the energy of a Lomi Lomi session, allowing for deep emotional healing and a sense of restoration.

Lomi Lomi massage sessions are presented in a different manner than Swedish massages and most Western massages that are offered in spas.  There is less in the way of draping; clients are lightly draped with a small towel or sarong, and not with sheets.  The massage is done directly on the massage table, so as to allow for flowing strokes beneath the body as well as on the surface.  The practitioner’s movements are closer to the body, and in general there can be a more intimate feel to the sessions.  Lomi Lomi can have a sensuous quality to it.  It can feel sensual, but it is not at all sexual.  It can also evoke deep emotions and can provide a safe arena for the healing of trauma.

In my Lomi Lomi sessions, I play some of my favorite Hawaiian music and chanting.  The pace of movement in the sessions can be faster and more active than my Swedish sessions, yet no less relaxing.  I like to incorporate deep tissue work into the flows for those that like deep work, and focus on any areas that are needing particular attention.

Please let me know if you are interested in experiencing a Lomi Lomi session.  I am offering Lomi in my Capitola studio, as mobile massage, and a 4 handed double session with another skilled practitioner.  Call or text me at 617-852-6024 to schedule.
